New Disney Animal Kingdom Rivers of Light Show

Disney’s Newest Show – Animal Kingdom Rivers of Light

For those of you new to our blog, we recently attended Disney Social Media Moms Celebration Land and Sea in Orlando where we had the opportunity to get some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks and insider-info on existing, new and upcoming Disney parks and Disney Cruise Line magic!

We’ll gradually be rolling out a full recap of our time at DSMMC, so keep checking back for updates!

One of the first things we had the opportunity to do (we really hit the ground running) was attend an exclusive viewing of one of the newest night shows to join Disney’s impressive lineup–Rivers of Light.

Launching today at Animal Kingdom, Rivers of Light has it all–lights galore, dancing water, fire, music, projections… It was truly phenomenal to watch! Check it out…

Rivers of Light synchronizes lights, water, projections, fire, music/narration, actors and gorgeous, floating installations to create a dynamic, one-of-a-kind experience. The boys, Patrick and I were completely blown away and all agreed it is one of Disney’s best shows to date!

I have to be honest, Animal Kingdom has always been our least visited park. Up until recently, there simply wasn’t enough to keep our family entertained all day like the other parks. Well my friends, times they are a-changing because between this new show and some amazing new additions to the park (Pandora, we’re coming for you later this year!) Animal Kingdom is positioned to give the other parks a run for their money!

And for you Disneynature fans (kingdom-ruling monkeys and precious baby bears–come on!) I was told that the projections on the water during the show were actually taken from some of their movies! *happy sigh* On that note, we’ll be discussing our private viewing of Disneynature’s upcoming Born in China film, so check back for that soon!

Anyway, Rivers of Light was beautiful.

If the projections on the Magic Castle give you goosebumps this show will blow your socks off! And we’re not just saying that because we got a behind the scenes viewing, we’d keep it real with you if we found it less than impressive.

I snapped some shots (and by some I mean nearly 1000) while Patrick took video on the GoPro for the video above to give you an idea of just how stunning everything was. Excuse the heads in most of my shots–short-people problems!

These shots were a bit of a challenge to get–fast-moving objects + darkness + being short–but hopefully they do the show justice!

I’m sure you can tell by their faces that they loved the show! The entire audience was filled with gasps from adults and shouts of joy from the kids. Definitely a crowd-pleaser! I wish I could have kept the audio in our video so you could hear the boys’ running commentary, but just take my word for it. They were stunned!

What’s your current favorite Disney show, new or old? Electrical Parade will always be a serious favorite for us, but this one is right up there!

Note: We viewed this show as a part of our time at Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. A substantial discount was extended to all those that attended. All opinions are our own.

Disney is always make new and wonderful improvement in their parks. I haven’t seen the animal kingdom light show but from your photos it would be worth the time to go on. Sure it is a busy place.

Busy, but way less busy during non-peak times! We’ve discussed it quite a bit actually if you go to our Walt Disney World tab under Travel 🙂

Wow that looks so pretty! I live in California and have visited Disneyland countless times, but I so badly want to take the kids to Disney Orlando! Looks like we could spend a whole week there and never get bored.

We love Disneyland, but I will say (not just because we’re East Coasters) that Walt Disney World has SO MUCH going on it’s pretty amazing 🙂

How fun! I really want to take my family on a Disney Cruise! We’ve also never been to Disney World since we are west coasters. I think it would be fun to make that trek east for a fun Disney Vacation.

Yes! The cruise was amazing (we’re working on several features focused just on the Disney Cruise we went on so hang tight!) and I think you’d love WDW!
