Cuteness Overload with GUND!

The boys recently had the opportunity to check out a few adorable plush from GUND, the oldest manufacturer of soft toys in the U.S. and the first to produce a teddy bear in the 1900s.

We recently learned that GUND is also the distributor for Sun Arrow (the official manufacturer of Studio Ghibli plush in Japan), which got us really excited because Studio Ghibli is as popular in our household as Disney. I grew up with Studio Ghibli and so have the boys!

GUND sent over a couple of their Studio Ghibli characters alongside what we think is one of their coolest GUND toys—Snuffles from their Buy a Hug Give a Hug charity.

As you can see in the video above, the boys were absolutely delighted with all of the plush they received. While our youngest is definitely the bigger plush collector of the two, our oldest still maintains a carefully curated collection.

I’m sure part of it has to do with their sensory issues, but one of the things they always check for is fur quality. Neither of them can handle stuffed animals that don’t have silky, smooth fur. They both always check the stitching because a single stray thread sends both into mini panics about whether or not they’ll quickly unravel. I’m happy to say they were pleased with the quality of all 4!

Here’s a little detail on each…

Authentic Totoro Plush 13″

Standing a whopping 13 inches high, this Totoro plush is every bit as sweet and charming as Totoro himself! His fur is incredibly soft and his stuffing is nice and firm, but still has a lot of give. The details the boys were most amused by were his ears, which are shaped very close to the original character’s—a very unique shape.

Cost: $50

Available on GUND’s website.

Snuffles – Buy A Hug Give A Hug

As we mentioned above, Snuffles is a part of GUND’s Buy a Hug Give a Hug program, which donates a plush through a charity focused on children each time Snuffles is purchased! Snuffles also happens to be their all-time bestseller, so the fact that they’ve made him the center of their program is perfect!

Snuffles is incredibly squishy, his fur is soft as a cloud and his slightly hunched, plump shape makes him ultra huggable. He stands 10 in tall.

Cost: $20

Available on GUND’s website.

Authentic JiJi Beanbag

Petite and super adorable, this Jiji beanbag is filled with beans in the body and stuffed everywhere else, which allows his head to stay upright, while his body is nice and floppy. He’s only 2.5 inches high and 6.5 inches from nose to tail, which makes him a perfect travel companion for anyone that has a kiddo that prefers to take a stuffed animal to sleep with on trips. If you’ve ever had to bargain with your kiddos about which plush can and can’t fit in your carefully packed luggage you’ll be happy to know this guy barely takes up any space at all!

JiJi is one of our favorite characters from Kiki’s Delivery Service and while we’ve seen quite a few versions of his plush character, this is definitely one of the softest and sweetest.

Cost: $15

Available on GUND’s website.

Final Thoughts on GUND

Overall, we’re very impressed with the quality of all of the plush we received from GUND and highly recommend checking out these characters and so many more on their site! They’d make adorable gifts for kids and adults in our opinions.

We absolutely love that they’re an official distributor for so many fantastic Studio Ghibli plush, including other characters and movies not listed above such as How’s Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke!

Does your little guy have a favorite stuffed animal?

Have you ever watched any Studio Ghibli films? Who’s your favorite character?

I love this Buy a Hug Give a Hug program. There are so many kids out there who would benefit greatly from having a plush toy they can cuddle and play with. Thanks for letting me know about this. I will get these huggable plush toys. They’d make great stocking stuffers for Christmas, and I know I will make other children happy too.
