We absolutely love this Movenpick resort and highly recommend checking out our original post from our trip before, which details quite a bit about the resort, family suite and available activities.
While we spent a lot of time doing family activities last time, we were given the opportunity to enjoy a couples activity this time—a couples massage in the gorgeous new Arkipela Spa.
Believe it or not, while we have done family massages with the kiddos and I’ve gotten massages on my own (I’ve had issues with my upper back since I was young and they can help with the pain), in nearly 13 years of being married we had never once enjoyed a couples massage together!
From the moment we wrote our appointment down in our calendar we were excited to give it a try. Bali is known for its wonder massage therapists and Movenpick is quite the fantastic luxury resort, so we had every reason to believe it would be top-notch.
The day finally came, so we dropped the boys off at the Meera kids club (which we cannot say enough good things about) and headed—just the two of us—over to the Arkipela Spa together.
While we never video with our regular cameras inside private areas such as spas, we did include some clips in our IG Stories if you’d like to watch them in the highlights section of our Instagram under “Asia 2018 Pt. 5”.
Ironically, due to the weather, there were rolling brownouts happening in the area, so the power went out right as we opened the doors to the spa, so unfortunately, we weren’t able to take pictures of the reception area, however, we saw it on the way out and it was lovely.
We were given a treatment menu and glanced over it before a delicious health shot was delivered to us and forms to fill out. We had been booked for a traditional couples Sasak massage (a technique with origins from the island Patrick grew up on in Lombok), but enjoyed seeing what else was offered.
We were lead to a treatment room and couldn’t help but notice how incredibly beautiful the large hall was (shown in part above) from which all the treatment rooms connected. Really quite beautiful!
Our treatment room was one of the nicest I’ve seen. It was modern and beautifully decorated—appointed with two side-by-side massage tables, two side-by-side chairs for foot treatments, a large stone tub, bathroom, closet for hanging your garments, etc.
We were invited to change into robes while the massage therapists (a woman for me and a man for Patrick) left the room.
Once the massage therapists returned, we were led to the side-by-side chairs and our treatment began with a wonderful foot/leg soak and massage. Once that was done, we were lead to our tables and our massages began.
Every step of the way our massage therapists ensured we were comfortable with the pressure, techniques, positions, etc.
I have had quite a few massages over the years and I always enjoy them in Bali. The massage therapists are always incredibly strong, which I love!
Patrick, who has only had a couple massages, was equally impressed with his massage therpaist’s strength and ability to pinpoint areas of tension, then ease them away.
Our massage lasted for 60 minutes and when it was over, our massage therapists excused themselves and told us to feel free to get dressed when we were ready.
We slowly and happily slid off our tables and got dressed, chatting about our experiences.
I’m always so curious to see what Patrick will think since he’s had so few massages. I was happy to learn that he loved his!
We left our treatment room and were met with a delicious ginger tea, which we sipped in chairs in the beautifully ornate, expanse hall just outside our room.
We were able to chat with the Assistant Director of Marketing & Communications at Movenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran afterwards to discuss the new spa and other changes that had come about since our visit just under a year ago, such as the Above Eleven Bali rooftop sky bar.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience and one we hope to repeat again in the future! Between stuff with the boys and living generally busy lives, we’d never had the opportunity or time to enjoy a couples massage together, but after this last experience we hope to make that a slightly more frequent part of our travels when possible.
Arkipela Spa is not only beautiful, but the treatment was had was wonderful. There are a number of options, which you can view on their treatment menu.
We highly recommend scheduling a massage for yourself or together with your spouse if you stay at Movenpick Resort & Spa in Jimbaran Bali!
